Get ready to squeeze on the speedos as the annual Swim Across the Lake, in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation and North Westmeath Hospice, will take place on Saturday, August 30, at 2pm.
The swim, which is supported by Bank of Scotland (Ireland ) and the Halifax branch in Mullingar, will be taking place in the new venue of Lough Ennell; it had previously been held on Lough Owel. The swimmers will be swimming an impressive distance of 1.8 km crossing from Ladestown to Belvedere House and Gardens.
Commenting on the swim, Lorcan Sleator said, “The committee is delighted to have the opportunity to organise the event after a year’s break and in support of two such worthwhile causes. Bartle and the crew at Belvedere House have been very accommodating and we are hoping the new venue and route will spark a lot of interest in those swimmers with a pioneering nature. Records will be set as this course has not been swum before”.
On safety matters Lorcan added that “swimmer safety is paramount”.
“The swim will be extremely well marshalled; however swimmers taking part will need to have previous experience of open water swimming,” he said.
Entries for the event will be restricted to the first 70 eager swimmers to register so early booking is strongly advised. To register or to find out more information contact Lorcan Sleator on (087 ) 2075175 or email [email protected].
