A Castlepollard man has received his third drink driving conviction and been disqualified for 10 years.
Seamus Devine of Bratty Road, Castlepollard had 64mg alcohol/100ml breath when he was stopped at a Garda checkpoint on the Dublin Road, Castlepollard on April 12 last.
Judge Conal Gibbons said the man’s liberty was at stake. He said Mr Devine didn’t seem to realise that his offence was serious and he said it was also important that the public realise the seriousness.
“Thankfully it’s rare” he said, that someone appears before the court to be convicted for a third time of drink driving.
Mr Devine admitted that his behaviour had been very stupid. He said he would probably lose his job and his house if he was imprisoned.
On hearing his family and work circumstances, the judge said he didn’t think a custodial sentence would deal with the problem, but added that Mr Devine may have an issue with alcohol.
He was also fined €3,000.
