Legendary rock guitarist to host music camp in Athlone

World-famous guitar player Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal is set to return to Athlone to host a guitar camp, and raise funds for Athlone IT Student Hardship Fund.

Thal is currently the lead singer and guitarist of legendary rock group ASIA, and lead guitarist of the band Sons Of Apollo. He is former lead guitarist of Guns 'n’ Roses (2006-2014 ), contributing his innovative fretless guitar parts to the band's Chinese Democracy album, and has also recorded and performed with members of Disturbed, Run DMC, and many more.

The Bumblefoot Music Camp, running from September 15 to 20, will host guitar players from all over the world, who will join Thal to learn recording techniques, production, singing, and of course, guitar mastery. Last year’s camp, hosted in Donegal, comprised participants of 17 different nationalities, who got to rock out on stage with Thal in Buncrana, Donegal.

He will perform twice in Athlone, both times at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The full band performance alongside students of the camp will take place on September 18, and an intimate acoustic show will follow on September 19.

Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal is an award-winning vocalist, songwriter, producer, and world-renowned guitar virtuoso, with more than 25 years of releasing music, playing international festivals and headlining tours, and gracing magazine covers as a solo artist. He has toured sold-out shows all over the world, headlining festivals with crowds up to 150,000.

Bumblefoot's recent album Little Brother Is Watching is an eccentric, upbeat, collection of epic rock with haunting melodies, huge choruses, and witty lyrics about life in the digital age and beyond. He is also an accomplished composer whose music is often heard in TV, film, and video games, including the theme song to VH1's That Metal Show.

Bumblefoot is also an adjunct professor at SUNY Purchase College teaching music production, and works with US embassies around the world on cross-cultural music programmes.
