LAOISE and Shrug Life release new singles

GALWAY ELECTRO-POP singer-songwriter LAOISE, and Dublin band Shrug Life, well known to Galway indie-rock audiences, have new singles. LAOISE’s ‘Seriously?’ is out now, while Shrug Life’s ‘Strangers’ arrives in late August.

‘Seriously?’ is taken from LAOISE’s most recent EP, Mad, and was written and produced by Laoise, Seán Behan, and Richey McCourt. The song deals with unrequited love and obliviousness.

“Seriously? is about that feeling when you really, really, like someone,” says Laoise, “and you don’t know how tell them but you keep dropping hints and they don’t pick up on them and you’re like ‘Seriously?’ It actually made me think about the first time I liked a girl, and she just thought we were just really close friends!”

Shrug Life - Danny Carroll, Keith Broni, Josh Donnelly, and Laura Ryder - release ‘Strangers’ on Friday August 23. It is the first single from their forthcoming studio album, due in early 2020.

Their debut album ¯\_(? )_/¯ came out in October 2017, via Seattle based Jigsaw Records. It was hailed by The Irish Times for its “sharp lyrics that poke and prod at the clamour of modern life”. The Thin Air named it among its 15 best albums of the year stating, “they are impossibly infectious and improbably good”. GoldenPlec said, “Shrug Life meld earworm hooks with lyrics that prick at your consciousness.”
