The Church Street Enhancement Scheme will be officially opened on Friday, April 12.
At the monthly meeting of Athlone Municipal District, the chosen date was selected by the elected representatives present and members of the Council executive.
Nearing completion, the upgrade of the town’s main thoroughfare, at a cost of €4 million, has reinvigorated the heart of Athlone and gleaned much favourable comment from locals and visitors alike.
Presently, preparations for the remaining street furniture consisting of planters and seating has commenced in front of the St. Mary’s Church of Ireland and Custume Place.
Traffic restrictions on Church Street will be in place on Tuesday, February 12 and Wednesday, February 13, for the installation of the planters and to complete in full the public lighting works, with westbound traffic being diverted via Griffith Street.
