New Inn the venue for popular annual Mummers Festival

Large crowds will descend on the East Galway village of New Inn this Saturday night for the staging of the annual Mummers Festival in the local leisure centre. This Festival of traditional music, song, dance and storytelling has been attracting entertainers and patrons to New Inn for 41 years and the organisers are delighted with the response from groups again this year.

The festival will commence at 7pm, with a number of talented and experienced junior groups setting the standard for a night of top class traditional entertainment. This will be followed by the senior competition with several groups challenging for the Peter J Donohue Perpetual Trophy. While the emphasis at the festival is very much on participation and encouraging young talent, the competitive element for the many prizes on offer adds to the enjoyment of the event.

There will be plenty of Galway talent on display at the Festival with Lackagh and Ballymacward among those confirmed and Counties Roscommon and Offaly will also be challenging for honours.

The Mummers Festival is organised by the local community council and profits from the event help maintain the leisure centre and support other community projects.

Visitors to New Inn on Saturday night can be assured of a warm welcome enhanced by a fantastic night of traditional music and entertainment in a comfortable venue.
