A Mullingar woman who led Gardaí on a high-speed car chase has been fined €100 and disqualified from driving for one year.
Marianne Murtagh of Graftonstown, Bracklin, Mullingar pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on August 8 last.
Gardaí on patrol in Delvin observed Ms Murtagh drive off at speed up Main Street with no lights on. She turned left out a road and had no back lights on. She travelled at high speeds down dark, narrow lanes, with dangerous bends, and was eventually apprehended when she failed to make a left hand turn at a speed of over 100km/h.
Mr Louis Kiernan said his client had never been in trouble before and could give no excuse for her behaviour other than “a rush of blood”.
He said there had been three cars at the scene, which she regretted leaving.
He presented the court with three testimonials on her behalf.
