Judge Eamon O’Brien said he would give a chance to a 21-year-old Mullingar man as his refusal to obey the instruction of Gardaí “is not the worst” case of that kind which he has heard.
Gavin Hughes of 16 Derravarragh Apartments was arrested at 3.55am on December 6 last, and twice refused to leave College Street when requested by gardaí.
A charge of public intoxication was struck out.
He has a number of previous convictions.
He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of travelling at 132km/hour in a 100km zone where he was apprehended by Garda Freyne.
“That’s very fast,” responded the judge.
Mr John Quinn said Mr Hughes hasn’t drunk since the College Street incident. He said his client has had difficulties but is hoping to get over them with the help of his parents.
Mr Hughes was fined €100 for speeding.
