Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon-Galway, Eugene Murphy has hit out at An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for what he deems a “vicious and untruthful attack” on Fianna Fáil in relation to spending promises.
Speaking on RTE Radio One’s Late Debate show last week, Deputy Murphy accused the Taoiseach of spreading propaganda against Fianna Fáil.
He said: “What a vicious and untruthful attack on Fianna Fáil by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar. He should be reminded that he is in the position of Taoiseach because of our support for the last two budgets. Fianna Fáil facilitated the formation of a government. We agreed two budgets under the agreement and we are committed to a third.
“It’s also a bit ironic for An Taoiseach to be taking Fianna Fáil to task in relation to spending promises when you consider Fine Gael Minister Richard Bruton’s promises for 35 to 40 new schools over the next four years, which is merely pie in the sky unless we get a clear programme for Government.”
Deputy Murphy added that Fianna Fáil’s commitments to education, health and housing are all underpinned by fiscal rectitude and responsibility.
