Moran to remain for duration of current Government

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran is to retain his position in Government until at least the next General Election.

Rumours circulated last week that a dispute had arisen between Independent Alliance colleagues Deputy Sean Canney and Minister Moran regarding an agreement came to on the formation of the current Government back in 2016.

At that time it was announced that Deputies Canney and Moran would share the Minister of State role at the Office of Public Works (OPW ), with the infamous flip of a coin deciding who would take on the role first. Deputy Canney won the toss, and assumed the ministry for the first year of Government, before handing it over to Deputy Moran last year.

With the Government entering its third year, it is understood that Deputy Canney wished for the role to rotate back to him.

In a statement released last Thursday afternoon, the Independent Alliance showed their full support for Athlone’s Independent minister to continue in his current capacity for the duration of the current Government.

The statement read: “The Independent Alliance has today confirmed that Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW and Flood Relief, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, will be continuing in that role for the remainder of the term of this Government.

“This follows recent media commentary as to who would fill the role going forward after two years in Government. The Independent Alliance met this afternoon and expressed its support for Minister of State Moran and the work he has been progressing while in office.”
