Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Alan Dillon, has called on Mayo County Council to include supporting the provision of student accommodation in the draft Mayo County Development Plan before it is finalised. Last week, the Dept of Housing, Local Government and Heritage issued a circular to all Local Authority Chief Executives. The circular pointed to the critical need for purpose-built student accommodation to be available to meet the needs of students in higher and further education.

Michael Ring TD has welcomed confirmation that Rathnamagh National School, Crossmolina (Roll Number: 17129W) has been granted funding under the Emergency Works Scheme from the Department of Education. Deputy Ring stated: "Rathnamagh National School, Crossmolina, has been granted funding for access works at the school. I am pleased that this funding has been allocated to Rathnamagh National School and I hope that the work will commence shortly."

He said: "I am inundated with calls from people whose theory test has been postponed again and again – even as high as seven times. This is simply unjust. The RSA is holding up a whole sector of society and preventing them from driving and possibly obtaining work.
