Sometimes you wonder if you could turn back the clock and relive elements of your life, just how far back you would go? And what elements would you change? And would you use this Benjamin Button power to enrich yourselves with things material or imagined?

But it is only through living life forwards that you gain the experience to see just how enriched you could be if you were to reverse it. With wisdom comes the ability to be more calm, to be less of a psychopath, to have the confidence in the face of a fastpaced life to be able to pause, to take a breath, to let whatever fleeting anger there is pass by, before you make whatever decision you make.

'Shelter’ project has lots of life at the National Museum of Ireland

An environmentally minded art project that is full of life is getting under way this May at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar. A group of artists from across Mayo are to spend six weeks creating a ‘living shelter’ in the historic grounds of Turlough Park House.

Ring opens Crossmolina’s new Multi Use Games Area

Michael Ring, Minister of State for Regional Economic Development, officially opened the Crossmolina Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) on Friday last. In October 2016, Minister Ring launched the CLÁR programme which provided funding for small scale infrastructural projects in disadvantaged rural areas that have experienced significant levels of de-population. The funding was provided under three measures, Safety Measures for Schools and Community/Sports Facilities, Playgrounds and Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGA), and Local Access Roads.

Ambulance numbers must be increased to improve turnaround times — Chambers

Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Lisa Chambers says urgent investment is needed in the ambulance fleet in the western region to ensure that turnaround targets are being met. The latest data supplied to Fianna Fáil reveals that only 9.5 per cent of ambulance calls at Mayo University Hospital were cleared within the official 20 minute window.

Traffic management plan for Westport Airshow announced

As a result of the Westport Airshow there will be a number of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions throughout Westport on Sunday, May 14. A comprehensive traffic management plan is in place to get Westport Airshow visitors in and out of the town as quickly as possible. The organisers of the air show are encouraging visitors to the event to travel sustainably, ie, walk, cycle, car share or take public transport. There will be designated car parks available for visitors.

Formal road closures will be in place covering the event from 12am to 7pm. This will be from the Ardmore Road to the statue at Hoban's Centra at the Quay. A number of manned closures allowing local access only will be in place from 10am to 7pm including (1) The Quay Road from the Leenane Road junction to the statue at Hoban's Centra at the Quay; (2) Ardmore Road; (3) Quay Coast Road at Belclare Junction; and (4) Doon Road at Castlebar Road junction.

The annual celebration of gastronomy that is Westport Food Festival takes place from Friday, June 23, to Sunday, June 25. The organisers are promising a programme with something for all ages, from mini chefs right up to fully fledged foodies. The highlight of the busy festival weekend is an exclusive Midsummer Banquet at Westport House. Fittingly, Westport House was the location for the launch by Michael Ring, Minister of State for Regional Economic Development.

Swinford's Anita Brady launches her debut children's novel

Mayo native Anita Brady has just published her debut children's novel, The Protectors of Dromgoon, which is the first in a series of three books. Ms Brady, who is originally from Swinford but now lives in Cavan, told the Mayo Advertiser: "I wrote the book because I wanted to show my two boys that reaching for your dreams no matter what stage in your life is possible. Self-doubt and fear should never hold you back.

Family fun day and famous footballers at JJ Burke Car Sales tomorrow

JJ Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe, is always a great supporter of Mayo football and to kick off the championship season the company is having a fun family afternoon on Saturday from 12 noon to 2pm. All are welcome along to the JJ Burke Car Sales showroom where you will be greeted by players from the Mayo Senior football team who are starting their championship campaign on the Sunday, May 21, against the winners of New York v Sligo game. Players from the team will be available for signatures and photos, as well as the triumphant Ballinrobe Community School who won the All Ireland Schools final recently. Children will enjoy family fun with characters from the popular TV show Paw Patrol as well as face painting and goodie bags.

Cycling Ireland Ride Leader Award in Achill

As part of its Achill Goal to Work sports coach training programme Mayo Sports Partnership, in association with Cycling Ireland, is hosting a Ride Leader Award training programme on Saturday, May 20 based in Tonragee Community Centre. The course will run from 9am to 5pm and the Cycling Ireland Ride Leader Award aims to provide leaders with an introduction to cycle leading and the competencies required to lead and manage groups on a cycle.
