Man couldn’t get his bike to Mayo by train

The Mayo Green Party has strongly criticised bus and train services in the West of Ireland. The party has highlighted the case of Paul Lynch, a research worker recently employed by the Sustainability Institute. Mr Lynch, who was carrying out important research into renewable energy in Mayo, recently set off back to his home town of Macroom in Co Cork by bicycle.

RTÉ to broadcast Mass from Croagh Patrick

For the first time the national Reek Sunday pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick will be televised live on RTÉ1 at 11am. The annual pilgrimage, which takes place this Sunday July 27, will be led by Archbishop of Tuam, Michael Neary. Television presenter Nuala Carey will commence coverage at 10.45am.

The Erris Pony Club will be running sponsored rides on Sunday July 27 and there will also be a sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick on the same day. On Wednesday July 30 a 25 card game will take place in the Turlough Community Centre, Castlebar and a Tea Day will be held at the Irish Wheelchair Association, Logmore, Belmullet, on Thursday July 31.
