Irish organisation benefiting local businesses officially launched

Aptly being launched during one of the week’s festivities of Seachtain na Gaeilge, which honours the Irish language, Westport based Gnó Mhaigh Eo — which offers advice, support, and translation services for businesses that are interested in using the Irish language in the promotion of their product or organisation — will be officially launched at lunchtime today (Friday), by the Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív.

Man given six years off the road for dangerous driving

A 26-year-old Polish man who lead the gardaí on a 160km chase through the south Mayo countryside and switched his lights off on a side road as he tried to evade the gardaí was fined a total of €1,000 and banned from driving for six years in Ballinrobe District Court last week.

Mayo hoteliers call on banks to increase credit facilities

The Mayo branch of the Irish Hotels Federation has called on Irish banks to deliver on their obligations under the Government recapitalisation scheme and immediately increase the flow of lending to small and medium enterprises. John Raftery, chairman, Mayo branch, IHF highlighted the lack of funding and stated that action taken by the Government has so far failed to deliver for the hotel sector any significant increase in credit facilities.

Cyclopes on our roads — which are vehicles with one failed headlight — are presenting a danger according to road safety officer Noel Gibbons, who said that “sadly, it is far too evident that many motorists are not checking that both of their vehicle’s headlights are working correctly.”
