After the success of the 2008 St Patrick’s Day bilingual float competition, Mayo Chamber of Commerce organisations, Kiltimagh IRD, Mid West Radio and Gnó Mhaigh Eo are encouraging groups, businesses, and organisations to promote bilingualism and enter their float in this year’s An Flóta Is Fearr competition.
The towns taking part are Ballina, Belmullet, Castlebar, Charlestown, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, Swinford, and Westport, with the overall float winner receiving an advertising package as Gaeilge worth €500 on Mid West Radio.
There are no regulations or application forms for the float initiative. The judges in each town will select the most appropriate float for the award and the winning float will then represent its town in the county competition. For more information contact your local Chamber of Commerce or Gnó Mhaigh Eo on 098 26555.
