One hundred more people added to the live register in Mayo

New figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office show that 103 more people in Mayo are on the live register since last month, bringing the figure to 12,231 people registered which is a 4,203 increase from statistics released this time last year.

At a Joint Policing Committee meeting held in Westport Superintendent Mick Murray said that street policing in Westport is in a “healthy state”, with swift action taken by gardaí in recent incidents in the town. The Superintendent said that they are at an advanced stage with the recent burglary investigation where an elderly man’s home was broken into, and as in the incident where a man’s face was injured a file will be sent to the DPP in the “not so distant future”.

The youthlinks website which was launched by a partnership of South West Mayo Development Company, Foróige, Mayo VEC, The No Name Club and Pobal at the end of October has been a big hit so far. Catherine McColoskey, the youth development officer with South West Mayo Development Company, says she can only see the website going from strength to strength.
