The youthlinks website which was launched by a partnership of South West Mayo Development Company, Foróige, Mayo VEC, The No Name Club and Pobal at the end of October has been a big hit so far. Catherine McColoskey, the youth development officer with South West Mayo Development Company, says she can only see the website going from strength to strength.
“A number of organisations came together to try and to together a brochure for information that would be useful to the young people in the Westport, Newport and Louisburgh areas. The idea of a website instead of a traditional leaflet came from talking to the young people, and that’s what they wanted. It also enables us to change the content and add services or change contact information as needed so it will never go out of date. Since we launched the website we have had nearly 3,000 hits on the site and we’re hoping that it will grow even more in the coming months.”
The website, which you can find at www.youthlinks.ie, is divided into a number of pages with contact information for sporting groups, health information, support services, schools, cultural and general services which would appeal to young people in the areas. Catherine also asked that any group who are not on the listings and would be suitable to have their details added, get in contact with the website via the ‘contact us’ feature on the page.
