APC to close factory in Castlebar with loss of up to 65 jobs

The workforce of APC in Castlebar were given the worst possible Christmas present this week when they were informed that the company’s Castlebar facility will close in early 2010 with the loss of up to 65 jobs. At a meeting on Thursday morning the company informed staff members that it expected to have the closure of the facility complete by the end of the first quarter of next year.

Former FÁS manager hits back at new claims

A former FÁS manager who was at the centre of an RTÉ Prime Time programme last year has hit back at new allegations made in the media last week of mismanagement of funds in the organisation while he was working there. Eddie Hoban, speaking to the Mayo Advertiser this week, refuted the allegations that €1,980 was claimed by Castlebar Care for the Aged Social Economy Ltd for services that didn’t exist.

National Irish Bank to close in Castlebar

The Castlebar branch of National Irish Bank will close in the coming months following an announcement this week by the Danish owned bank that as part of restructuring over the next 18 months due to the recession and “unprecedented challenges” in the Irish financial sector, 25 out of 58 branches will close, mostly in rural areas, with a total loss of 150 jobs nationwide.
