The Castlebar branch of National Irish Bank will close in the coming months following an announcement this week by the Danish owned bank that as part of restructuring over the next 18 months due to the recession and “unprecedented challenges” in the Irish financial sector, 25 out of 58 branches will close, mostly in rural areas, with a total loss of 150 jobs nationwide.
Media relations advisor Simon Fullam told the Mayo Advertiser that the Castlebar branch will merge into the Galway financial service centres, however he could not confirm how many jobs will be lost and he advised customers that the Castlebar branch will give three months’ notice of the exact closure date of the local branch.
