A large number of members of Ballyhaunis Credit Union gathered at the credit union building on Friday March 16 for the launch of the first members’ car draw. Midwest Radio roadcaster was on hand to provide entertainment and a great atmosphere was created as local businesses supported the draw with numerous spot prizes and gift vouchers for those in attendance.

The members’ car draw is a non-profit making project and any surplus funds in the draw will be distributed as extra prizes. The board of Ballyhaunis Credit Union would be delighted to welcome new members who wish to join and enter into its twice yearly car draw. It is also an ideal time for existing members to re-activate their accounts.

Half of drivers with penalty points feel it is unfair

Ireland’s penalty points system is undoubtedly working and enjoys broad support, but motorists who have been caught are inclined to feel hard done by. In a poll of 4,000 motorists who had received penalty points at least once nearly half felt aggrieved to some extent.

Some 46 per cent of respondents felt the circumstances in which they had received penalty points were fair, but a similar number, 48 per cent had a gripe of some sort about the incident.

Car sales up slightly in January but cautious outlook for year

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry has released the January car sales figures which show a 1.5 per cent increase on last year.

There were 21,313 new cars sold in January 2012, an increase of 314 on January 2011 (20,999), more than 3,000 of which were bought under the Government Scrappage Scheme which ended last June.
