Ecotune, based in Headford, is one of the leading mobile remapping specialists, offering a service that can save motorists up to 20 per cent more fuel efficiency and as much as a 50 per cent gain in power.
According to Ecotune owner John O’Sullivan, car manufacturers adopt a one-map-fits-all policy when vehicles are distributed throughout the world, which has to take into account many different factors that are necessary for each export country.
“Areas such as climate, emissions, and fuel quality all have to be considered by the manufacturer, but this means a vehicle ECU is never optimised for one individual situation.”
That is where Ecotune can play a vital role. It will remap an ECU which means it will basically fine tune the programme that deals with engine performance.
“As well as producing greater power and torque, we also deal with drivability problems at lower rev ranges, such as flat spots and hesitation issues, giving the engine more initial torque making a more responsive and enjoyable drive”
John O’Sullivan says if for any reason customers would like their vehicles returned to the original settings - maybe when they are ready to change their vehicle - Ecotune can reverse the process free of charge.
“In most cases the enhanced performance may help the sale of a vehicle, and should a customer lose their modified software due to dealer actions or parts failure, we will be happy to re-install the map onto their car free of charge for as long as they own the vehicle.”
A remap costs €295, and if customers call to Ecotune’s premises near Headford, they will save another €50. To remap a vehicle takes approximately one hour, depending on which map is chosen.
