First Aid Training Service is a Galway city based company which provides an extensive range of first aid courses, both locally and nationally. The company was set up in 2001 by Seán Sweeney and Martin Commins. They have both been involved in first aid for most of their adult lives. Their range of courses cover emergency, basic, occupational (FETAC Level 5) and paediatric first aid, basic life support for healthcare providers, CPR, defibrillator training and a new concept in Ireland, CPR parties. CPR parties are aimed specifically at parents, grandparents, babysitters or anyone who cares for children. They take place in the home and are based on the Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association guidelines. The course is two hours long and consists of no more than six people. First Aid Training Service is recognised by the Health and Safety Authority, the Irish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association. All instructors and examiners hold current certification from the Ofaaa (Occupational First Aid Assessment Agency) and instructors hold certification as Emergency Medical Responders accredited to Dublin Fire Brigade and National Ambulance Training College. They are also members of the Irish Institute for Training and Development. They provide courses to corporate clients, clubs, private individuals and healthcare professionals. There is a new timetable of classes available to non-members at Castle Leisure Club this May. Parent and toddler swim sessions The next parent and baby/toddler swim classes will be starting on Friday morning, May 16. Classes for children aged one to three years is from 11 to 11.30 am.
Classes for babies up to one year is from 11.30 am to 12 noon. This class is a water awareness and water confidence session. The class is designed to improve confidence in both parent and baby. Through a fun and relaxed environment, babies will learn movement in the water and parents can develop the skills necessary to promote their baby’s confidence. Classes are open to mums and dads with kids under three years of age.
