The loudspeaker crackled and spluttered for a good 10 seconds or more until finally a voice announced the train from Ballina to Dublin would be running 30 minutes late. The news was greeted with cheers and whistles by us Mayo supporters packed together on the platform. We had come from all around the area, men, women and children all wearing the county colours and all determined that nothing was going to spoil our trip to ‘Headquarters’ to see Mayo play Kerry in the All Ireland final.

Over 8,340 Asthma sufferers in Mayo are not using their inhaler correctly

The Asthma Society of Ireland and Irish Pharmacy Union launch Campaign encouraging people with asthma to get their inhaler technique checked. Not using inhalers correctly results in poor symptom control and a worsening in conditions.

Participants needed for survey to build an economic argument for investment in autism services

A national survey entitled The Economic Costs for Families Raising a Child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in Ireland is being undertaken and led by Áine Roddy, an Irish Research Council Health Economics PhD Scholar at NUI, Galway. Her PhD supervisor is Professor Ciaran O’Neill. It will be the first international study to provide an in-depth analysis and evidence-based research on the direct and indirect costs incurred by families due to caring for a child with an ASD.
