Decline in uptake of meningitis vaccine

The Meningitis Trust is urging parents to vaccinate their children against meningitis, following news from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), which is part of the HSE, that the latest immunisation uptake data for children at 24 months of age indicates a decline in the uptake of the MenC vaccine, Hib vaccine and the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.

Speaking in advance of Daffodil Day John McCormack, CEO, Irish Cancer Society said: “Ireland’s cancer rate is one of the highest in the world. Latest data from the National Cancer Registry shows that 29,775 people were diagnosed with cancer in Ireland in 2009, 979 of these people were from Mayo.”
