Research clearly highlights that responding to challenges in life, by feeling overwhelmed and distraught, impacts on both mental and physical health. Evidence suggests that the more stressed out we feel in facing life’s challenges the more vulnerable we are to colds, flu, and a range of illnesses. Stress and anxiety are prevalent in Irish society. Undoubtedly learning to manage stress and anxiety is a valuable life skill, enhancing wellbeing, contentment, and fulfilment.
Psychologist and clinical hypnotherapist Amanda Walsh has witnessed a noticeable increase in numbers contacting her practice, Northwest Therapy and Hypnosis, seeking support and guidance in dealing with stress, sleep difficulties, worry, panic attacks, and low mood. Ms Walsh notes: “Stress is part of life, however feeling stressed out is not. While we may not be in a position to alter our circumstances, our environment, nor the people in it, we are capable of learning to alter our responses to challenging situations. Learning evidenced based coping skills, developing and strengthening psychological resilience, has the potential to enhance life in lasting ways.”
