Leslie Dowdall is the voice and songwriter behind the sound that was In Tua Nua, Mike Hanrahan is the voice and songwriter that is Stockton’s Wing, and they will be taking to the stage together in the Ballina Arts Centre on Thursday, June 15.  Following her stint fronting legendary Irish band In Tua Nua, Leslie Dowdall’s solo career began in earnest with the release of No Guilt, No Guile in 1997. The album won high praise for its creativity and featured hit single ‘Wonderful Thing’.

Staged reading of Creaking at The Linenhall

Acclaimed stage and television actor Geraldine Plunkett (The Clinic, Glenroe) performs a staged reading of Creaking, a play by Noelle Browne, at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday, May 22 at 8pm.

The play tells the tale of Rita who is tired of her humdrum existence. Her adult children are getting on her nerves and she misses her best pal Mary. It’s time to spice up her life! Creaking is based on the lives of real-life Irish people in later years. It explores the everyday challenges and pressures facing us as we age, and how we attempt to defy stereotypes. Presented as a staged reading, this moving and funny drama documentary features acclaimed actor Geraldine Plunkett alongside a new cast of volunteers each night. It is written by Noelle Brown and directed by Oonagh Murphy. Presented by Bealtaine, in association with NB Theatre Company.

Arts Festival 2017 programme announced

THE WORLD premieres of a new play by Conall Morrison and a new opera by Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh; a major exhibition by Brazilian artist Ana Maria Pacheco; new theatre productions from Druid; Beach Boys’ legend Brian Wilson at the Big Top; and Syrian architect and author Marwa Al-Sabouni, are just some of the highlights of the 40th Galway International Arts Festival.

The festival takes place from July 17 to 30. "This will be our biggest year to date," festival CEO John Crumlish. "We have a significant birthday to celebrate and we start our build up towards European Capital of Culture 2020. With an increased number of theatre premieres, one of our biggest musical line-ups ever and a very exciting free programme we hope our audiences enjoy our birthday party and that it provides for a great July in Galway."

The legendary Christy Moore is coming to Westport

Irish music legend Christy Moore makes a welcome return to Mayo for an intimate concert at Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, on Friday, May 12. He will be joined on stage by master guitarist Declan Sinnott and percussionist Jimmy Higgins for this not to be missed performance.

Christy Moore has been singing, recording, and writing songs for most of his 71 years. He has been on the road since 1966 starting out in the pubs and small folk clubs in Ireland and England, and eventually performing in most of the premier concert venues throughout Ireland, England, Europe, and the United States as a solo artist and as part of the legendary groups Planxty and Moving Hearts.
