The Guinness Choir will form part of an impressive line-up of national and international artistic talent for this year’s 36th Clifden Arts Festival. Performing Handel’s Messiah, the Guinness Choir will delight the audience on Saturday, September 21 in St Joseph’s Church, Clifden from 8.15pm. Accompanying the Guinness Choir for their debut Clifden Arts Festival performance will be some of Ireland’s and the world’s leading soloists including Cara O’Sullivan (soprano), Tanya Sewell (alto), Christopher Bowen (tenor) and John Milne (bass).

Castlebar Pantomime committee are looking for people over 18 to come along to their adult auditions for their 2014 production of Sleeping Beauty. The auditions will take place in the Castlebar Mitchels GAA sports complex on Sunday, September 15 from 3pm to 6pm and on Monday, September 16 from 8pm to 10pm. If you are interested in acting, singing, dancing, or prefer to work backstage, you are welcome to join the cast and crew of Castlebar Pantomime.

The first Westport Festival of Chamber Music will be held from Friday September 6 to Sunday September 8 in Westport House and Holy Trinity Church. As well as some of Ireland’s top international musicians, the festival will showcase some rising stars in the music world. Violinist Mairead Hickey and pianist Gary Beecher, both from Cork, will perform works by Schumann, Sarasate and Debussy at 12 noon in Holy Trinity Church on Saturday September 7.

Decadent Theatre presents Eugene O’Brien’s powerful, award-winning, play Eden at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday September 23 at 8pm. Eden is a powerful story of an ordinary relationship over an extraordinary weekend. Bringing to life a gallery of colourful Irish midland characters, at its heart is a moving, funny, and tragic portrait of the failing marriage of Billy and Breda and the weekend that will make or break them. From the author of RTE’s acclaimed drama series Pure Mule, Eugene O’Brien’s debut play Eden won Best New Play at The Irish Times Theatre Awards and Best New Play for the Stewart Parker Awards. This production brings together a stellar cast of Patrick Ryan and Lesley Conroy and is directed by Andrew Flynn, It also contains strong language and adult content.

The Custom House Studios are now inviting submissions for exhibitions and use of studio space for 2014 and 2015. The studios complex houses seven artists studios, a printmaking studio and two exhibition galleries. These facilities are housed in a historic restored Customs House building on the Quay in Westport, on a prominent waterfront street. The studios are located upstairs, overlooking the harbour. All studios have daylight and 24 hour access. The main gallery is located on street level with good daylight. The second gallery is located upstairs and has good daylight. The galleries enjoy high visitor numbers.

The Linenhall Film Club opens its doors for another season of films from beyond the land of Hollywood. Kicking off the autumn season is Love Is all You Need, on Tuesday, September 17 a warm and affectionate Danish cocktail of love, loss, absurdity and humour starring Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm. Philip, an Englishman living in Denmark, is a lonely, middle-aged widower and estranged single father. Ida is a Danish hairdresser, recuperating from a long bout of illness, who's just been left by her husband for a younger woman. The fates of these two bruised souls are about to intertwine, as they embark for a trip to Italy to attend the wedding of Patrick and Astrid, Philip's son and Ida's daughter. Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier has created a film that will leave only the hardest heart untouched. It is a film about the simple yet profound pains and joys of moving on - and forward - with your life.

Mayo groups Coda and The Clew Bay Pipers have recently collaborated to release a very well received new single called “Mayo Home”. “Mayo Home” is a tribute song to the county of Mayo and its people. Coda and The Clew Bay Pipers hope that it will inspire all Mayo people wherever they are but most importantly the Mayo football team in their endeavour to bring Sam back to the red and green county in almost 62 years!
