Irish people busy making savings plans

A new study by EBS into Irish people’s plans for saving and household budgeting for the year ahead has shown that 18 per cent plan to do a very thorough review, 36 per cent will make a general savings plan while 45 per cent of Irish people have no plans to develop a household budget for the year ahead. The research of the 1,000 people surveyed, also found that of those planning to prepare a budget, more than 50 per cent revealed this was something that they have only started to do since the downturn.

Single Farm Payments processed for Mayo as agri sector thrives

Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring has has said that the agri-food sector is on course for another strong year, following bumper export results for 2011. The Minister of State also confirmed that 98% of Single Farm Payments have been paid to farmers in County Mayo with outstanding payments set to be processed as quickly as possible.

Failte Ireland promises to promote Mayo tourism in 2012

Failte Ireland has made a commitment to help promote Mayo Tourism throughout 2012 following its annual Tourism Industry Briefing held in Westport on Tuesday last. In a discussion with tourism operators in the county at Knockranny House Hotel, the tourism body warned against any complacency in the sector, stressing that the hard lessons and good work of the last few years will need to continue.

UK finance firms back veto on EU financial rules

A poll of UK finance firms has found that more than two thirds support a veto on EU financial rules, even if it reduces access to the single market.

According to Open Europe - an independent think-tank calling for reform of the European Union - which published the new ComRes opinion poll this week, while the EU market is seen as offering benefits to the UK – “it is likely to offer limited new growth opportunities for UK financial sector firms, at a time when opportunities elsewhere in the world are on the rise.”

Rehabs JobFit participants enjoy career progress

Rehab’s innovative JobFit programme, which operated a centre in Castlebar between August 2010 and June 2011, has reported that 54 per cent of participants on the employment and training skills course in the town went on to secure a job or progressed on to further education or training. A total of 205 people who were unemployed enrolled in the centre and outcomes of participants were tracked up to October 31, 2011.
