Westport’s Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel was among a large group of spas represented at the National Spa and Wellness Conference in Cork this week, which was organised by Fáilte Ireland.
Key research released by Fáilte Ireland shows that 104,000 overseas visitors visited a spa when on holiday in Ireland in 2010 with 43 per cent of these visitors coming from Britain followed by mainland Europe at 27 per cent and North America at 25 per cent.
Speakers on the day included Brian Scannell from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland who gave advice to the delegates on how to improve energy efficiency in their spas, and how savings could be made without compromising the quality of their offering.
Tony Lenehan, Fáilte Ireland’s head of quality and standards, said: “We were also delighted to present the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel with their spa accreditation certificate, who are among 71 spa and wellness properties that are approved to Fáilte Ireland standards for 2011-2013. It is our intention to continue working closely with the industry in helping them to best position their product both domestically and internationally, through our training and enterprise supports. In the current climate, the need to be innovative and to generate new business ideas has never been more pressing.”
