With the summer holidays now underway, for thousands of students around the country, the Health and Safety Authority has this week urged employers to be extra vigilant when it comes to taking on young workers for the summer. It is estimated that, although young people constitute only 4 per cent of the workforce, injuries to them represent around 10 per cent of all reported injuries.

Seven Centra stores in Mayo are celebrating after being presented with the Supreme National Hygiene Award at the recent 2014 Centra Quality Awards in Killarney. The awards, which identify and reward retailers that have gone above and beyond in their strive to maintain a consistently high level of hygiene in their stores over a three year period, were presented by Martin Kelleher, managing director of Centra, and Martin Roper, technical director of Excellence Ireland Quality Association. The seven Mayo stores that were presented with this prestigious award, were Roche’s Centra Balla, Cuffe’s Centra Belmullet, Walsh’s Centra Kilmaine, Mitchell’s Centra Moygownagh, Sheridan’s Centra Newport, Casey’s Centra Castlebar, and Casey/McShane’s Centra Ballina.
