Now in its sixth year, Mayo Ideas Week has become a valuable part of the business calendar and this year runs from Friday September 25 to Friday October 2. This is a wonderful opportunity for Mayo based businesses of all sizes to learn, be challenged, and network effectively. Mayo Ideas Week is a series of entrepreneurship, idea generation, and business events hosted by the development and enterprise support agencies in Mayo. Most events are free of charge but require pre-registration.

The awards have already attracted a large number of entries from across the country. The 2015 Ulster Bank Business Achievers Awards are Ireland’s longest running award scheme for SMEs and over the years have recognised and supported the potential of many now high-profile businesses and entrepreneurs.  

Final call for Mayo female entrepreneurs to apply for fully funded ACORNS programme aimed at early stage rural based entrepreneurs

This Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and CEDRA funded programme will see up to 50 start-up female-led businesses mentored by successful and experienced entrepreneurs to develop and advance their enterprises. Applications are being sought for a new fully funded programme aimed at providing early stage Mayo based, female entrepreneurs with the knowledge, support and networking opportunities to advance the development of their businesses. Entitled ACORNS (Accelerating the Creation Of Rural Nascent Start-ups) - the programme is focused on unleashing the potential of female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland who have recently started a business or who have taken concrete steps towards setting up a business.

Small businesses expect fifteen per cent jobs boost from online trading

More than 70 per cent of small businesses that have participated in the Government’s Trading Online Voucher Scheme expect to recruit more staff, according to a survey published by the Department of Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources. On average, the small firms that expect to take on extra workers predict a jobs-dividend of almost 15 per cent.
