The brilliant Chris Wood performs at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, November 26 at 8pm. Dubbed “the renaissance man of English folk” by no less than The Irish Times, Chris Wood is one of England’s most vivid and arresting song writers, weaving the tradition with his own contemporary parables.
Self-taught on guitar and violin, his independent streak shines through in his composition and studio work. Always direct and unafraid to speak his mind, his song writing has been praised for its eloquent clarity. Setting up R.U.F. Records in 1992, he has been responsible for a string of illustrious collaborations and acclaimed solo albums, from The Lark Descending in 2005 to the 2013 release None The Wiser.
Along the way he has earned a number of awards including Folk Singer of the Year and Best Original Song at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2011, Songwriter of the Year at the Spiral Earth Awards 2014, and Best Original Song at the BBC 2 Folk Awards in 2006 (with Hugh Lupton ). In 2012 he was invited as special guest on Joan Armatrading’s 50 date tour of the UK. Chris Wood is the real deal. Live, he is spellbinding. .Booking is advised for this show for more information call (094 ) 9023733 or online at www.thelinenhall.com
