Louisburgh mechanic wins top European award

Prize-winning motor mechanic Colm Corcoran, a native of Louisburgh, has won a much-coveted EuroSkills gold medal in a pan-European skills competition held recently in Rotterdam. Over 30 countries participated at this competition under international rules, which was co-sponsored by the EU Commission and the Dutch government and held in front of more than 40,000 spectators.

Now recognised as the best in Europe in his chosen career, Colm received his skills training in the FÁS Training Centre in Galway and is currently working with Al Hayes Motors in Portumna, Co Galway.

Colm was among the 11-strong Irish team which won one gold, five silver and five bronze medals, and two certificates of excellence amidst stiff competition from over 400 contestants from 31 countries at this intensive three-day skills competition.
