A Ballina man was disqualified from driving at Ballina District Court this week after he was detected by gardaí driving with no lights on at night and was then arrested for drink driving.
Garda Jude Gallagher observed Kevin Morrell, 51 Corcoran Terrace, Ballina drive his car on September 2 at 3.10am on Ridgepool Road with no lights on and when the defendant attempted to park his car on Ridgepool Road he was seen bumping the car into the kerb. After being arrested for drink driving the defendant provided a sample which showed 279mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
The defendant, according to solicitor Joe Tuohy, drove that night after drinking as he had received a call that his mother was ill.
Morrell, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €600 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for three years.
