Dublin band Codes are set to play support to The Flaws at Castlebar’s brand new music night at Bar Ritz this October. Finbar Hoban is asking you to pick a new name for the show at Bar Ritz on Saturday October 17th, those who feel they have the best name of the new show can e-mail suggestions with your name and details to [email protected] by Wednesday September 30. The winner will receive €100 in cash for their efforts.
The new name of the show will only be revealed on the launch night, which will be Saturday October 17. Codes, an alternative/electronic quartet from Dublin, has just been added to the bill along with The Brilliant Things and headliners on the night, The Flaws. Never ones to be content with trend-following, Codes have taken the recognisable four-piece band formula and moved it into something entirely their own.
Soaring vocal harmonies, dreamy arrangements and a calculated cryptography of electronic beats, piano, glockenspiel and analogue synthesisers permeate their sound.
Codes’ winter-inspired debut album, Trees Dream in Algebra, was released last Friday and was recorded in Gloucestershire UK and mixed in Auckland New Zealand with acclaimed producer Greg Haver, and mastered by Greg Calbi who has produced albums from Interpol and Kings of Leon.
Earlier this year Codes supported Keane on their European tour including a well-deserved support slot with the band at The 02 in Dublin.
Tracks from the album, including ‘This is Goodbye’, have been getting lots of air-play on the radio over the past few weeks and The Irish Times has singled Codes out to be one of the biggest bands of tomorrow.
The band have just been signed to EMI and prospects for Codes are very high over the coming months, with a lengthy national tour ahead of them over the coming weeks including a stop-off at Bar Ritz.
