Mayo Country Gospel Singer joins with RTÉ for a service focusing on mental health during the pandemic.
What does the Gospel say about mental health? will air on Sunday, May 16 from 11am on RTÉ 1 television, in which Mayo country gospel singer, James Kilbane, and his colleague Gavin Murphy, will join with members of Tullamore Presbyterian Church, in Offaly, in a service of reflection and song on the theme of, 'What does the Gospel say about mental health?'
Reverend William Hayes, minister of Tullamore Church, said: :"We asked James to lead the music in this service, firstly for the energy that he brings to his music and secondly, for the fact that many country gospel songs speak, in a down-to-earth way, of our day-to-day struggles in life and our reliance on the grace of God to survive the hardships of this world."
Viewers can expect to hear many personal accounts from people outlining their experiences during lockdown, as well as many musical favourites, including "It is No Secret What God Can Do", "Why Me Lord, Amazing Grace", "Be Not Afraid" and more.
Viewers will get to hear personal stories from Rev William Hayes with other members of the congregation who will speak around their personal day-to-day struggles in life, the lockdown and around mental health.
Eleanor Smyth, a leader in the church said: "Lockdown has been hard on everyone, and we hope that as we share these stories in our words and songs, that it might help the viewers, in their own struggles, to know that they are not alone.”
RTÉ in recent years has included Country and Gospel music in many of their broadcasts as it speaks to people in their everyday lives across Ireland.
