Get involved in Mullingar Choral Society this season

Mullingar Choral Society is about to start rehearsals for the 2013/2014 season.

Rehearsals commence on Monday September 9, in St Mary’s CBS (beside the cathedral ).

The choir is made up of ordinary men and women who turn in an extraordinary performance, year after year, with little or no fanfare. The annual concert in the cathedral is one of the highlights of the town’s cultural calendar.

It is a mixed choir, meaning there is a section to suit every voice. The society regularly brings in nationally and internationally acclaimed soloists for the annual concert - but the real stars are the members who turn up every week throughout the winter for rehearsals. And of course the musical director, Fergus O’Carroll, and principal guest conductor, Gavin Maloney, are stars in their own right.

The choir is going to continue with their annual Christmas concert in St Paul’s Church, Mullingar in December. This event is always very popular with young and old alike.

Mullingar Choral Society put a lot of hard work into performances. Nevertheless the rehearsals are informal and enjoyable and are a great way to get out and meet some interesting people. Sight-reading ability is not essential.

Membership for the year is €70 and there will also be a charge for musical scores. If you think you or a friend might be interested, you can come along for a couple of rehearsals without committing to anything. The society is entering a major phase in its development, so there’s never been a better time to be involved!
