Technological University of the Shannon (TUS ), Athlone Campus, has solidified its support of youth sports in the Midlands by becoming the official sponsor of sports kits for five local secondary school teams.

The sponsorship, a student recruitment and engagement initiative which includes the front-of-kit branding for the teams, spans a diverse range of sports and schools, including Marist College’s Under 14s Boys Rugby, Colaiste Chiarain’s U15 Girls Soccer, Athlone Community College’s Junior and Senior Boys Gaelic, Moate Community College’s Junior and Senior Boys Gaelic and Our Lady’s Bower Junior and Senior Girls Basketball.

The unveiling of the new kits marks a significant investment by TUS Athlone in promoting physical activity, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among local youth.

Director of Marketing and Communications at TUS Athlone Orla Thornton highlighted the broader societal benefits of sports participation.

“Playing sports empowers communities, promotes a sense of belonging, and instils valuable life skills such as teamwork and responsibility. As the sole university in the Midlands with a strong reputation for sports, our partnership with local school sports teams is a natural fit as we work towards the growth of Athlone as a dynamic new university town,” Ms Thornton said.

TUS Athlone Student Recruitment Officer Claire Connor emphasised the university’s deep-rooted commitment to the development and well-being of the community.

“Providing access to quality sports equipment is essential in promoting physical activity, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. This sponsorship, a student recruitment and engagement initiative, not only demonstrates our commitment to supporting youth sports but also highlights our dedication to fostering positive relationships with schools in the Midlands,” Ms Connor concluded.
