Ballina councillors still waiting for word on removal of signs

The members of Ballina Town Council are still waiting to hear why road signs directing people to Ballina on the N17 outside Claremorris were removed and replaced with tourist destination signs. Fianna Fáil councillor Johnny O’Malley raised the issue again at Wednesday nights meeting of the local authority. “We asked that the county manager report to us what had happened to these signs and what was being done about it at the last meeting, what is the status of that?” asked Cllr O’Malley.

Lands could be de-zoned as new Regional Planning Guidelines come into effect

Landowners who have had land zoned for housing under the last County Development Plan or Town Environs plans could see their land dezoned in the very near future. The new Regional Planning Guidelines which came into effect last year have to be signed off and all relevant reports completed by October 18 this year. Senior Planner with Mayo County Council Ian Douglas gave a presentation on the tight time-scale that the council had to work with to ensure that all statutory obligations were complied with by the deadline, at the April meeting of the local authority this week.
