Ballina councillors still waiting for word on removal of signs

The members of Ballina Town Council are still waiting to hear why road signs directing people to Ballina on the N17 outside Claremorris were removed and replaced with tourist destination signs. Fianna Fáil councillor Johnny O’Malley raised the issue again at Wednesday nights meeting of the local authority. “We asked that the county manager report to us what had happened to these signs and what was being done about it at the last meeting, what is the status of that?” asked Cllr O’Malley.

Town manager Paddy Mahon told the meeting that the county manager had asked him to deal with the issue and he had made contact with the relevant person who dealt with these things nationally at the National Roads Authority, and he was waiting for a response from him. Cllr O’Malley said it was a very serious issue and the council could not let it go on any further than the December meeting before it was sorted out.
