On Thursday March 6 South West Mayo Development Company, in conjunction with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, is holding a seminar Europe Matters in the Castlebar campus of GMIT. Funded by Department of An Taoiseach under the Communicating Europe Initiative, as well as Mayo County Council, this half-day seminar is an opportunity to examine and reflect on the role of citizens in influencing the EU. The internationally renowned line-up of speakers includes Anastasia Crickley, the first chair of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency; Dr Will Dinan from the University of the West of Scotland and co-founder of www.spinwatch.org; Kieran Clifford from Amnesty International; and Paul Ginnell from the European Anti-Poverty Network (Ireland).

It was inspired by a farcical concert, it got up and running thanks to a whip round in a living room, and was sustained by much perspiration from its members during economically depressed times.
