Larry Hingerton, an inspiration for Operation Transportation
Westport Smarter Travel’s Operation Transportation finished last Friday, October 24. The Westport Smarter Travel team is now compiling the results and Westport’s Smartest Travel Community Group will be announced in the coming weeks. A total of 18 community groups took part with lots of members choosing smarter travel for the five week period. One community group member who must be given a special mention for his dedication to smarter travel is Larry Hingerton, a member of Westport Town Band, and although he is 85 he chooses to walk to Mass from the Quay every day.

Return of Westport Walks Weekdays (WWW)
All schools in Westport are collaborating to encourage everyone to travel to school in a sustainable manner. WWW encourages all commuters to consider walking, cycling, car-pooling, or taking the bus to school. This is a re-launch to encourage schools to get involved and it is intended that they will hold regular WWW days from now on. This initiative is part of the Westport Smarter Travel programme.
City Hall welcomes high numbers using Christmas park and ride service
Almost 1,500 people have been using the Galway City Council’s park and ride service in the run up to Christmas with the local authority reporting a significant increase in passengers.

The Galway City Council’s Christmas park and ride service begins this Saturday at 7am, and it will be operated by Bus Éireann.
