Mayo teens awarded certificates in youth leadership

Thirty-six Mayo teens have graduated from Foróige’s Leadership for Life Programme. The National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) awarded the young people with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action last Saturday October 15. Two hundred and seventy young people in total graduated from the North and South of Ireland on Saturday having completed three modules in leadership. The programme develops the leadership capabilities and potential of young people and gives them an opportunity to harness their skills and attributes to contribute to their society in a fun and encouraging environment.

Westmeath students attend International Youth Leadership Conference

Four Westmeath students were among a group of nearly 300 young adults from across the world who attended the Albert Schweitzer’s Leadership for Life (ASLFL) conference last week. The conference was run by Foróige, the National Youth Development Organisation, and ICCUSA Foundation Inc (Irish Chamber of Commerce, USA) at NUI Maynooth. Nathan Byrne (Kinnegad), Deirdre Campbell (Moate), and Sarah Claffey and Grace Farrell (both from Rosemount) secured a place for the week-long conference based on the strength of their written application supported by a nomination to attend from a youth worker or volunteer leader from the county.

Youths complete toastmasters programme

Fourteen young boys and girls from Kilkenny College were presented their certificates on completion on Thursday May 19 at the final session of the Youth Leadership Program, sponsored by the Kilkenny Toastmasters Club.
