Museum of Country Life

Have you been to see the beautiful Coggalbeg Hoard exhibition in the Museum of Country Life? There are only two weeks to go before the exhibition ends. Visit before Sunday October 14 and see this exhibition before it returns to the National Museum in Dublin. The Coggalbeg Hoard features Early Bronze Age goldwork which formed part of the contents of a pharmacy safe stolen from Sheehan’s Chemists, Strokestown, Co Roscommon.

Join storyteller Gearóidín Breathnach and students from Coláiste Pobail Acla for a performance of local stories from Achill Island including ‘Préachán Acla’ and ‘An Mhaighdean Mhara’. New hoard of Early Bronze Age gold from Coggalbeg opens at museum

The hoard of Early Bronze Age goldwork which formed part of the contents of a pharmacy safe stolen from Sheehan’s Chemists, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, in March 2009 was officially opened by Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, yesterday (Thursday). Safe Secrets: the Story of the Coggalbeg Hoard will be on display until Summer 2012.
