Museum events

At the Museum of Country Life, Turlough, a performance of stories from Achill will take place on September 28 from 3pm to 4pm. Join storyteller Gearóidín Breathnach and students from Coláiste Pobail Acla for a performance of local stories from Achill Island including ‘Préachán Acla’ and ‘An Mhaighdean Mhara’. No booking required.

On Saturday September 29 from 11am to 4pm there is a drop-in activity: Connacht Textile Crafters. Join Wendy Kelly for creative embroidery demonstrations. No booking required.

Domestic Crafts: Traditional and modern

This exhibition aims to showcase the wide range of domestic crafts, methods, and materials used today. Many traditional crafts have developed creatively to incorporate modern tools, materials and techniques. This exhibition reflects this increasing diversity through a range of objects including garments, quilts, felted toys, and sculptural pieces.

This exhibition runs until October 28.

Return to the Land of Youth: The folk art paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin (1901-1991 )

This folk art exhibition is composed of the country life paintings of Seán Ó Séadhacháin (1901-1991 ). These paintings were acquired by the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life in 2011. They give a special insight into many of the farm and country life practices that are on exhibition in the Museum of Country Life.

Safe Secrets: the Story of the Coggalbeg Hoard.

The hoard of Early Bronze Age goldwork which formed part of the contents of a pharmacy safe stolen from Sheehan’s Chemists, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, is currently on display and will end October 14.
