Pedestrian crossing urgently needed on ring road — Ruane

Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane has put out an urgent appeal to the National Roads Authority to put in place a pedestrian crossing on the ring road in Castlebar at the junction of John Moore Road and the ring road. She raised the issue at the recent Castlebar Town Council meeting and a letter will now be written to the NRA requesting this.

Ruane welcomes proposed cycle safety measures

Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane has welcomed new proposals by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) to make cycle safety training a part of the school curriculum for seven and eight year olds in primary schools accross the State. The RSA Road Safety Strategy is also considering proposals to make the wearing of helmets for children under 13 years compulsory, a timely and welcome move according to Cllr Ruane who is chairperson of Smart Travel Castlebar.

Bike Week in Castlebar was a great success

Despite the rain, bike week in Castlebar has been a great success. Up to 50 people registered to participate in the Cycle to Work for the week, many availing of free showers and sharing their stories and experiences over a cuppa in Lough Lannagh Village before work in the mornings. One lucky winner of a Hybrid bike will be selected from a free draw open to all participants today (Friday).

Ruane welcomes funding for Turlough Cycle Route

Sinn Féin Councillor and chairperson of Smart Travel Castlebar, Thérèse Ruane, has welcomed the news that funding has been secured for the cycle route linking Castlebar to the National Museum of Country Life in Turlough House.

New name and logo for Smart Travel Castlebar

Smart Travel Castlebar, (formerly Iompar Castlebar) has a new name and logo following a very successful competition with transition year students from secondary schools in the town. A large number of entries were received and Smart Travel Castlebar, a group promoting sustainable travel in Castlebar, is delighted with its new name and logo.
