Smart Travel Castlebar, (formerly Iompar Castlebar ) has a new name and logo following a very successful competition with transition year students from secondary schools in the town. A large number of entries were received and Smart Travel Castlebar, a group promoting sustainable travel in Castlebar, is delighted with its new name and logo.
Thérèse Ruane, chairperson of Smart Travel Castlebar, said: “I’d like to thank all the students who submitted entries for this competition. It was a difficult choice for the judging panel; the standard was very high. Congratulations to all the winners; we’re very happy with our new name Smart Travel Castlebar and we will soon have our new logo on all our correspondence, posters, etc. I’d like to thank all the schools and the TY coordinators who encouraged and supported students to take part in this competition.
“Smart Travel Castlebar has been working tirelessly to promote Castlebar as a more accessible town for pedestrians and cyclists. Our campaign for more pedestrian crossings, safer walking and cycle routes in the town has been very successful to date. We’ve seen cycle lanes in Castlebar for the first time in a number of locations in the town. Further cycle lanes will be put in place on the Westport Road in the coming months. This is very positive and welcome. The benefits of cycling and walking are obvious - less congestion, healthier, safer, and more pleasant environment for everyone.”
