Kilkenny cruised to their fourth Leinster title in a row with a comprehensive win over Wexford in Nowlan Park on Wednesday evening.

What a week it has been! I don't think I've ever heard as many rumours about player injuries ahead of an All-Ireland final. The Kilkenny team returned to training last Monday night after their customary weekend away in Wexford.

The junior county blitz started last Saturday in O'Loughlins with the under 12 boys and girls starting things off. A total of 21 teams entered this competition and a good day was had by all.

Erin's Own return to the senior ranks next year after defeating Danesfort by a goal in a hard-fought but most enjoyable intermediate final last Sunday. Conditions were far from ideal in Nowlan Park, strong winds prevailed throughout this encounter. but it didn't deter either side from producing some good honest action. The more rounded and experienced 'Comer side had stars all over the pitch, but none shone more brightly than my ex-intercounty colleague Davy Buggy. Davy has given many fine displays in the 'Comer jersey down through the years but this will definitely rank as one of the best and one of the most important. He will probably be first to acknowledge that he is not blessed with blinding speed, but like any good hurler, he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. The popular Buggy is widely acknowledged in hurling terms as having one of the best pairs of hands in Kilkenny. His touch, allied with a clever hurling brain, saw him rattle off 1-4 last Sunday a scoring return that did much to send 'Comer back to the senior ranks.

Tullogher-Rosbercon landed their 5th Kilkenny junior hurling title as they overcame a youthful Lisdowney in a cracking junior final played in terrible conditions at Nowlan Park last Saturday.

The Fenians of Johnstown closed a 12 year gap by beating Lisdowney in the Minor Roinn B county final on Sunday. The five point victory was well deserved for the Fenians who fought off a strong challenge from Lisdowney.

Kilkenny manager Richie Mulrooney felt that his side had come through one of their toughest games under his reign as the ‘kittens’ qualified for their second ESB All-Ireland MHC Final in succession, following this two-point win at Croke Park last Sunday.
