Clarinbridge has been named winner of the 300–1,000 Population category at the 2025 IPB Pride of Place Awards, held on Friday last at the Strand Hotel, Limerick.

The Marconi Men’s Shed in Clifden and the community of Clarinbridge have welcomed judges from the 23rd annual IPB Pride of Place competition, an all-island awards programme highlighting excellence in community development.

Chosen by Galway County Council to represent the county in the all-island competition, both communities are polishing up their presentations ahead of the adjudicators’ visits on September 11, and 12, with the overall winners due to be revealed at a glittering ceremony in Limerick’s Strand Hotel on November 7.

Galway-based software company Channel Mechanics was proud to announce the successful completion of their 2024 “Peaks to Plunge” Charity Challenge, surpassing their €50,000 fundraising target in support of SCCUL Sanctuary, a Clarinbridge-based organization offering therapeutic retreat days for individuals facing serious health conditions or life challenges. The funds will be instrumental in helping SCCUL Sanctuary expand its facilities in 2025, including the construction of a new sanctuary room overlooking its sensory gardens.

SCCUL Enterprises CLG has been awarded Social Enterprise of the Year 2022 by the All Ireland Business Foundation. In a virtual ceremony just before Christmas the local social enterprise were announced as top of their category for the year.

Christmas came early for some residents of Blake Manor Nursing Home in Ballinderreen as they embarked on their first adventure since Covid-19 struck over a year and a half ago.

The ‘Spiorad Shaidhbh’ Midsummer 5km Sponsored Walk in aid of the SCCUL Sanctuary takes place at 11.45am on Sunday June 23 at the Flaggy Shore in New Quay, Co. Clare. Spiorad Shaidhbh was founded in 2010 by the friends and family of the late Galwaywoman Sadhbh Ní Bhrádaigh, who died on Christmas night 2009 from pneumococcal meningitis.

Avaya Voice were singing on high after winning the top prize in the 2016 Galway Choir Factor Competition which took place in the Radisson Blu Hotel at the weekend.
