Experts from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences have warned about the serious health risks associated with vaping, saying that it may be still another decade before we see the real impact on the younger populations that are now vaping.

The Irish Osteoporosis Society and International Pelvic Physiotherapy Management are jointly running a seminar for the general public on Osteoporosis and Pelvic Floor Muscle Dysfunction. The seminar will be held in the Ardilaun Hotel, Taylor’s Hill, Galway on Friday February 25 from 7-9pm.

A new course aimed at giving young people the skills to optimise their health and well-being has been launched by the Centre for Positive Psychology and Health at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.

A future doctor from Athlone was amongst those who donned caps and gowns as they graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland School of Medicine (RCSI) as part of the College’s summer graduation ceremonies. Dr. James Flynn was one of 283 graduates in attendance at the event which took place in the Convention Centre in Dublin.

The first ‘NUI Galway Mini Med School’ is taking place in January and February to encourage and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. The programme is aimed at Transition, 5th and 6th year students and will be run on campus on January 27 and February 3, 10, and 17 2016. NUI Galway Mini Med School is designed to give students a taste of what it would be like to study a healthcare-related degree at the University, while encouraging them to pursue their interests. It is the second initiative of its kind in Ireland along with the College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

NUI Galway will host Ireland’s largest surgical conference, the 40th Sir Peter Freyer Memorial Lecture and Surgical Symposium over the next two days September 4-5 in the Arts Millennium Building, NUI Galway when internationally renowned surgeon, Dr Philip Schauer will deliver the Memorial Lecture entitled ‘Surgical Therapy for Diabetes – A New Order’.
